Day 11: Hanmer Springs

Today was a transport day from Fairlie to Hanmer. We left in cool overcast conditions and a reflective mood, still enjoying the trip but aware that the off road riding was coming to an end and also beginning to look forward to home. I’m conscious of not wishing time away and on that note was enjoying the ride between Fairlie and Geraldine where we planned to have breakfast. My reverie was somewhat interrupted when my chain snapped at 100kph and thoughts of whether I should have my eggs poached or scrambled were replaced by oh fuck. In the end I settled on poached. 

It was not my time and once things had settled down we were able to fix it. Fortunately I had the bits to fix it and Dave Mac and Bernie had the knowledge so after a 40 minute break we were able to resume the trip. 

After a wholesome breakfast we carried on into progressively colder weather with drizzle thrown in. Thankfully the rest of the day passed uneventfully. 

Tomorrow we return over the Rainbow Road as our planned route north through the Molesworth is closed due to drought conditions. Ironically it looks like it may be cold and wet. Regardless we plan to enjoy the last off road riding of the trip.
